Materials Needed:

  • Playdough (2 colours or more adds visual interest)
  • FREE downloadable Moon Rock Counting Mats (print & play)
  • Curious hands & a space explorer mindset

How to Play:

  1. Print your FREE Moon Rock Counting Playdough Mats (numbers 1–10).
    Roll small balls of playdough to create moon rocks.
  2. Count each moon rock aloud as you make it.
  3. Place the correct number of moon rocks onto the matching moon on the mat.
  4. Repeat, recount, and explore different numbers as confidence grows.

Extend at home by:

Asking “How many moon rocks do we need?”

Mixing colours to create different moon rock textures

Timing how long it takes to make each number (without rushing)

Compare numbers: “Which moon has more rocks?”
